A 50-year-old woman from Cape Town and owner of a travel agency will be sentenced for theft in December after she duped holidaymakers out of hundreds of thousands of rand.

Crescenda Meyer was found guilty of several counts of theft in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Pretoria.

Meyer, who owns a travel agency called Style Breakaway Travel in Cape Town, would advertise holiday packages to Zanzibar for couples or people travelling in groups.

A spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority Lumka Mahanjana says Meyer would then issue fake travel itineraries and invoices after pocketing their money.

Seven female complainants from Gauteng and their husbands made use of Meyer's services only to find out at the Airport that their bookings were not made.

The group lost an amount of just over R200 000.

They reported the matter to police and Meyer was arrested in June 2019.

According to an article in IOL dated December 2018, Meyer was arrested on similar charges, after allegedly duping several people, including a couple who were going on the honeymoon.

The NPA was approached for comment for an update on the 2018 case.

Meyer will be sentenced on the 3rd of December 2020.
