A security guard in Standerton in Mpumalanga has been charged with fraud, theft as well as impersonating a senior prosecutor after soliciting numerous bribes from unsuspecting members of the public to reduce their traffic fines.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Leonard Hlathi, says 28-year-old Lucky Vala, was arrested during a police operation on Tuesday.
It is alleged that Vala, who is stationed at the Standerton Magistrate's Court, would lure numerous people into giving him their money, before going to a private office where he reduced the fines illegally.
Brigadier Hlathi says his cover was blown when several complaints were made from people who had not received their receipts as proof of payment.
He says Vala was further found in possession of traffic fines, date stamps as well as reduction affidavits at the time of his arrest.
His formal bail application is expected to be heard at the Standerton Magistrates Court on Thursday.
