Transport Minister, Joe Maswanganyi, has hailed the signing of a wage agreement
by three of the five unions that went on strike on Wednesday.
The Minister said the “agreement was reached during the wage negotiations at the South African Road Passenger Bargaining Council.”
“This effectively brings an end to the bus strike which begin on Tuesday, 11 April 2017,” said Minister Maswanganyi.
“This breakthrough in negotiations brings immediate relief to many vulnerable commuters who are yet to travel during this Easter weekend to attend religious pilgrimages and for holiday. It will further assist to reduce congestion when the Easter weekend comes to an end,” the Minister added.
He also called on metal workers union Numsa to appeal to its members to join the other unions in signing the agreement.
Numsa said that while it rejected the developments at the Bargaining Council it would take the wage offer to its members on Saturday.
