A young Cape Town rowing coach has died after succumbing to injuries he sustained during a lightning storm which hit the Germiston Lake on Saturday.
A teenage rower, also from Cape Town, survived and was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
The NSRI said that the coach, said to be 20-year-old and the 14-year-old rower had taken shelter under a tree after the regatta was called off because of a thunderstorm.
NSRI spokesperson, Craig Lambinon, said that paramedics commenced CPR on the coach but “sadly he was declared deceased”.
