Three high-ranking police officers and a former senior officer were among six people arrested in the past 24 hours in connection with a SAPS tender of over R54 million.
The NPA's Investigative Directorate said the suspects were arrested on Monday and Tuesday during operations in Durban, Bloemfontein, and various areas around Pretoria.
Spokesperson, Sindisiwe Seboka, says two of the suspects were arrested as they were about to board domestic flights from OR Tambo International Airport to Cape Town and Durban, respectively.
"The suspects are two businessmen based in Durban, a former Lieutenant-General, a current serving Lieutenant-Colonel, and two Majors-General from Pretoria and Bloemfontein," she said.
They are to appear at the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Wednesday 21 September 2022, on charges of fraud, corruption, and theft.
Seboka said the arrests are a result of joint stakeholder cooperation between the Investigating Directorate (ID) and the Independent Police Investigative Directorate.
