Three men arrested in connection with a R400 million cocaine haul made a brief appearance in the Athlone Magistrate's Court in Cape Town on Monday.
The National Prosecuting Authority says Ebrahim Kara, Meshack Ngobese, and Elias Radebe, were remanded in custody to next Monday when they're expected to apply for bail.
They were arrested last Thursday when police followed up on information about a truck transporting drugs.
Hawks spokesperson, Zinzi Hani, said earlier that the truck was stopped and searched on the N1 highway.
She said the drugs were hidden inside false wooden boards at the back of the truck.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Police, Bheki Cele, and Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembisile Patekile, attended Monday's court appearance.
"The Western Cape police have really done a great job in terms of removing over 600 kg of cocaine worth millions of rand before they could be sold on our streets, these drugs are often generators of crime and are most detrimental to our communities, especially to our youths," Cele said”
