Lady Skywalker finds forever home

Caroline Hartley Photography

A dog that was rescued from the roof of the Engineering building on the Stellenbosch campus earlier this year has found her forever home.

The Greyhound was trapped on the roof for quite some time as it was dehydrated and malnourished when fire fighters rescued her on the 4th of January.

Shortly after the rescue the dog was placed in the care of Sighthound Rescue South Africa, and NGO who specialises in training and rehoming greyhounds.

The dog was named Lady Skywalker and was offered free food for an entire year, courtesy of the Engineering faculty in Stellenbosch.

Lady Skywalker was extremely shy and skittish and had to learn to trust people and other dogs.

During her foster care she was housetrained, walked on a leash, taken to the beach and trained to overcome her food aggression and Sleep Startle Syndrome.

The University, who has been in the news for all the wrong reasons this year, posted Lady Skywalker's happy ending on their Facebook page on Friday.

The Greyhound has been living at her forever home since May this year.
