Three suspects between the ages of 32 and 50 are expected to appear in the Stilfontein Magistrates' Court in North West on Tuesday in connection with illegal mining, illegal possession of gold-bearing material and money laundering.
Police Spokesperson Captain Tlangelani Rikhotso says the Hawks arrested the men on Monday following a year-long investigation.
He says the suspects are allegedly involved in elaborate clandestine mining activities which border with a parallel illicit economy, high levels of violence and money laundering.
Seven houses were simultaneously stormed by Crime Intelligence on Monday morning.
Captain Rikhotso says police confiscated four vehicles, one firearm, R760 000 in cash as well as mercury and gold refining paraphernalia.
