The death toll in Sunday's fire at a guesthouse in Witdraai in the Northern Cape has risen to eight.
Provincial police spokesperson, Mohale Ramatseba, says the eighth victim succumbed to burn wounds at a hospital in Cape Town on Monday.
Police are still investigating the cause of the fire which broke out at the holiday resort called Blinkwater Lodge on Sunday.
Five of the victims were children and three adults.
Ramatseba says a seven-year-old child is still missing which could bring the death toll to nine.
Three people survived the fire with no injuries.
An inquest docket has been opened and the police are investigating and continuing their search for the missing child.
