The Covid-19 alert Level 2 rules have officially been gazetted by the Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.
In a big win for the hospitality industry, restaurants, bars and taverns will be allowed to sell alcohol on weekends, but for on-site consumption only, until the curfew time of ten pm.
Nightclubs, however, are still not allowed to operate.
Other changes include concerts, weddings and smaller events now being allowed, though they're still restricted to no more than 50 people.
Gyms and Airbnb establishments are also now officially allowed to operate for the first time since the hard lockdown in late March.
South Africans on Tuesday will also be allowed to purchase cigarettes for the first time in 145 days.
