Police said three men were arrested for robbing cyclists in Olifantsfontein in Gauteng on Saturday during which a person was shot and killed.
Spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, said the trio was arrested soon after two cyclists were robbed of the bicycles and belongings at around 7am by a group of men travelling in a Toyota Avanza.
He said SAPS, supported by Ekhuruleni Metro Police, conducted a search and arrested the three about two kilometres from the robbery scene.
Masondo said the men, aged between 35 and 40, were found in possession of the two bicycles that were taken from the victims.
He said they were also linked to another robbery and murder of the cyclist in the same area also on Saturday morning.
Police said a father, his 18-year-old son and a 58-year-old brother-in-law were cycling in Olifantsfontein when they were confronted by five men in a white Toyota Avanza who fired shots at them before robbing them of the bikes.
Masondo said the brother-in-law was hit in the upper body and died on the scene.
The trio will appear in court in court in Tembisa on Monday.
