Thirteen people have been killed in a head-on accident between two minibusses in the Free State.
The police attended to the horror scene of the accident on the R57 between Reitz and Petrus Steyn at about 1 am on Saturday morning.
Free State police spokesperson Motantsi Makhele says 13 people died instantly.
“A white VW Crafter with a Free State registration number was on its way to Gauteng from Ficksburg and had a male driver who died instantly on the scene. The second vehicle was a Toyota Quantum with a Gauteng registration number which was en route from Pretoria to Fouriesburg and carried 11 passengers and the driver, who was also killed. Four passengers were taken to Dihlabeng and Nketoana Hospitals with serious injuries,” Makhele said.
The cause of the accident is unknown and police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
