Five people accused of the Hartswater farm murders in the Northern Cape in August 2020 made a brief appearance in court on Friday.
The accused, four men and a woman, are facing various serious charges which include three counts of murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, as well as kidnapping.
"They are suspected of killing the elderly couple Danie Brand (83), his wife Breggie (73), and their 54-year-old daughter Elizabeth," said NPA regional spokesperson, Mojalefa Senokoatsane
Their bodies were found days later by a multi-disciplined police search team that was assembled to locate their whereabouts.
Senokoatsane says the case against Donald Seolesang (21), Tshepo Visagie (37), Realeboga Manyedi (20), Kgomotso Mpumlwane (44) as well as Tshepaone Malato (20), was transferred to the North West High Court for trial.
He said throughout their numerous court appearances, one of the accused, Kgomotso Mpumlwane, applied for bail in the Hartswater District Court, which was successfully opposed, and the other four accused abandoned their applications.
The five accused will remain in custody until their trial in September 2022.
