Controversial former SABC boss, Hlaudi Motsoeneng has been ordered to pay back the R11 million he received as a 'success fee' while still at the public broadcaster.
The Special Investigating Unit said the High Court on Wednesday declared the payment unlawful and invalid and ordered that the money be refunded within 7 days plus 15.5% interest, dating back to September 2016.
"In the event, Mr Motsoaledi fails to pay within 7days, the SABC Pension Fund is ordered to pay the aforementioned amount to the SABC or where the pension proceeds do not amount to R11 508 549 12."
The SIU said it approached the High Court together with the SABC to review and set aside a decision by the former Board to pay Motsoeneng a success fee and to recover financial losses suffered by the corporation.
Spokesperson, Kaizer Kganyago, said the Court action was informed by the SIU investigation in the affairs of the SABC, which revealed that the public broadcaster had irregularly paid monies to individuals and entered into contracts to its own detriment.
