The Independent Police Investigative Directorate IPID says a third police officer was arrested for the murder of Eldorado Park teenager, Nataniel Julies.
IPID's Ndileka Cola, says the detective from Eldorado Park faces a charge of defeating the ends of justice and for having prohibited ammunition.
She says the police officer will appear in court on Thursday.
Two other policemen appeared in court on Monday and are being held in custody pending a bail application.
Meanwhile, The KZN Down Syndrome Association says all sectors of society have an important role to play in protecting the rights of children with disabilities and special needs.
Acting Chair, Elaine Pieterse says education is crucial.
The shooting of 16-year-old Julies, who had down syndrome, prompted outpourings of grief and anger with South Africans demanding justice for the child.
Pieterse made the call for more protection for children with the genetic disorder during a National Down Syndrome meeting held earlier this week.
