An additional five accused were released on R5 000 bail each on Wednesday after appearing in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court in connection with the R56 million police branding case.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Sindisiwe Twala says this group includes four police captains who handed themselves over at the Silverton Police Station earlier in the morning.
They are Captain Zelda Botha, Captain Pieter Jacobs, Captain Mamohuba Modiba and Captain Tshepo Modikoe.
Another accused, Linda Lubanyana, handed himself over on Sunday after initially fleeing arrest over the weekend.
They all appeared on charges of fraud, money laundering, corruption and theft.
Their fifteen co-accused appeared on Monday and were all granted bail of R5000 each.
The accused included two retired police Captains, two active Captains, a Warrant Officer and several Admin Clerks.
Sixteen other co-accused appeared in June on the same charges.
Twala says the total number of accused in the case now stands at 36 and that they are all due back in court on the 29th of September.
The case relates to the accusations of manipulation of procurement documents for the branding of police vehicles.
