Suspects arrested after truck carrying copper plates hijacked

File

Four suspects arrested are due to appear in court in North West this week after a hijacked truck carrying copper plates was found on a farm in the Ventersdorp area.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Adele Myburgh, said police also found numerous truck trailers, vehicle parts, heavy-duty machinery, forklifts, and copper plates all valued at R10 million.

She said that the initial investigation began into the hijacking of a truck en route to Durban harbour, carrying copper plates for export worth R6m.

Myburgh said when police arrived on the five some of the copper plates had already been offloaded from the hijacked vehicle and being cut into smaller pieces.

Five more trailers which were attached to other hijacked trucks in Alberton, Vosloorus, and Soweto were also found on the property.

The suspects are all males aged between 20 and 50 and are expected to appear in the Ventersdorp magistrate’s court this week.

The matter will also be investigated by the Hawks.
