The police in KwaZulu-Natal shot and killed three suspects who were allegedly planning a house robbery in Reservoir Hills in Durban on Friday.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker says: “A description of the vehicle in which the suspects were travelling in, was given to the operational team. Police officers spotted the vehicle in Reservoir Hills, and when attempting to stop the vehicle, the suspects opened fire at police, and a gun battle ensued.”
He said three suspects were fatally wounded and two firearms were recovered as well as a "grenade."
“Two police officers were grazed by bullets on their heads during the shootout,” Naicker added.
He said further investigation has revealed that the suspects were wanted for a spate of cash-in-transit heists, going as far back to 2021.
“Investigations are ongoing to determine if there are any other cases in which the suspects are involved in. The recovered firearms will also be subject to ballistic tests.”
