A suspected poacher has been killed in a shootout with rangers in the Kruger National Park.
SANParks led operations at the Pretoriuskop Section, in the south of the park, which led to the arrest of 4 suspects last week.
Spokesperson Ike Phaahla says the rangers were responding to the sighting of two poachers.
The Airwing Unit was also called to the scene where the rhino poachers were arrested.
Contact was made 24 hours later, with another three suspects and one of them was fatally wounded.
Phaahla says a lengthy follow-up ensued with the support of the Airwing and K9 units which led to the eventual apprehension of the remaining two suspects.
During both operations, a high calibre hunting rifle, ammunition and poaching equipment were seized.
All four suspects were handed over to the police and will appear in court in due course.
