Police have made a breakthrough in the investigation of the murder of one of their own, Lieutenant Colonel Charl Kinnear.
The 52-year-old officer who worked at the Anti-Gang Unit in Cape Town was gunned down outside his home in Bishop Lavis last week.
The suspect was arrested in Gauteng on Wednesday and he will appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrates Court on Friday.
Spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi says Kinnear had just arrived home last week Friday when the suspect approached his car and opened fire on him at close range.
The details and motive around the murder are still unknown.
Brigadier Mulaudzi says more arrests cannot be ruled out.
