Two of the five suspects arrested by Limpopo police for an armed robbery were on bail pending finalisation of their murder and attempted murder cases.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, said they were arrested on Wednesday.
He said a 47-year-old man was on R2000 bail for double murder while the other was out on R1000 bail for an attempted murder case.
Mojapelo said they were part of a gang that allegedly robbed security officers patrolling the Muraleni railway line on Tuesday.
He said police were searching for a murder suspect who had escaped from the Tshilwavhusiku magistrate court in Vhembe on Wednesday morning when they came across a Toyota Yaris with five occupants.
“The suspects allegedly attempted to shoot at the police who retaliated and one of them was shot and injured. All five suspects were immediately arrested on the spot.”
Police also seized a quantity of drugs and firearms.
Mojapelo said the five are due to appear in the Tshilwavhusiku Magistrate court on Friday.
