The brutal murder of 21-year-old college student Naledi Lethoba at Welkom in the Free State has caused outrage and an outpouring of shock, anger and sadness on social media.
A 19-year-old student at the Goldfields TVET College, Obed Leshoro, appeared in the Welkom Magistrate's Court on Thursday in connection with her murder.
He has been remanded in custody after he was handed over to police by his parents.
Lethoba's murder has revived a fierce debate on the moral standings of men in general, with many sharing the sentiments on Twitter and Facebook.
There's been a widespread call for serious action to be taken with concerned members of the public sharing the deceased's picture and the suspect's picture with the hashtag #JusticeForNaledi.
Lethoba's burnt and mutilated body was discovered by a passer-by in a veld in Dagbreek last week.

Police described the murder as cruel and disturbing.
Lethoba still had a knife stuck in her neck, while her face was partially burnt with both her breasts cut off.
The case was remanded to the 14th of June.
