Gang protest: Case against Khoi -San chief struck off the roll

Khoi-San chief, Crawford Fraser and his two co-accused have been released at the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court.

Fraser and community activists; Hakeem Vincencie and Gabby Muchune were released before they even entered the dock on Friday after facing a number of charges which include Incitement to Commit Violence and the Obstruction of Justice.

The charges stemmed from their alleged involvement in a demonstration against gangsterism which took place in the Northern Areas over the weekend.

As part of the demonstration, a group of armed community members went on a motorcade demanding that gangsters come out and show themselves.

Gang violence in Port Elizabeth's Northern Areas has reportedly claimed more than 90 lives since the beginning of the year.

Speaking to the media moments after his release, Crawford said he's tired folding hands and doing nothing while children are dying.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Pricilla Naidu confirmed the release.

She says in a brief statement that the matter was struck off the roll pending further investigation.
