Standard Bank engaging with dismissed staff members after vaccine mandate is dropped

Finance Union SASBO says Standard Bank has started to engage with staff members who were recently fired for not taking the Covid-19 vaccine.

General Secretary Joe Kokela says they are pleased that these 40 staff members will be given an opportunity to get their jobs back.

Earlier this week Standard Bank withdrew its Covid-19 vaccine policy stating that the country had reached a significant milestone in managing the pandemic.

Bank CEO Lungisa Fuzile said 95% of their workforce was already vaccinated.

In reviewing its policy, the bank took a range of factors into account, including recent regulatory developments, the current state of the pandemic in South Africa, and the high vaccination rate amongst its employees.

Consequentially, it is no longer compulsory for employees to be vaccinated, or to produce a negative PCR or Rapid Antigen test if they are unvaccinated, in order to enter our premises," said Fuzile.
