A man reportedly in his 40’s and described by Correctional Services as an interloper has died at St Albans Prison at Greenbushes in Nelson Mandela Bay.
Correctional Services Department spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo told Algoa FM News the intruder succumbed to his injuries after being immobilised by a patrolling official on the grounds of St Albans in the early hours of Friday morning.
“A DCS official on his routine patrolling duties reacted when he picked up a movement along the perimeter fence,” said Nxumalo.
He said a substantial amount of contraband was also discovered.
“SAPS had to take over the scene and more details are to be shared at a later stage.”
