Six people are due to appear in court in Rustenburg on Thursday in connection with the murder of 11 people at Sondela informal settlement near the town.
North West police spokesperson, Brigadier, Sabata Mokgwabone, said they were arrested earlier this week.
They face charges that include murder and conspiracy to commit murder, arson and kidnapping.
Mokgwabone said the arrests followed incidents of violence between 18 and 26 November at Sondela in what appeared to be mob justice after people were killed and properties vandalised.
He said two men who were necklaced on the 18th, were from Matatiele in the Eastern Cape.
