Seven people were killed following a horror accident on the N3 at Harrismith in the Free State on Sunday evening.
ER24 said a 15-year-old boy was critically injured in the crash which involved a truck, a VW Kombi, and an SUV.
Spokesperson, Ross Campbell said their paramedics and other role-players arrived on the scene at 19:20 to find the SUV up against a roadside barrier on the Johannesburg bound side of the N3 while the Kombi was wedged under the front of a truck, in the veld, on the Durban bound side.
He said two people were found deceased in the Pajero while five people in the Kombi, believed to be from one family, were found with fatal injuries.
“All the occupants were found entrapped in the vehicle. The only survivor from the Kombi, a 15-year-old boy, was also found entrapped in the vehicle,” Campbell said.
He said it took teamwork from all the emergency services on-scene to help keep the truck from collapsing further while others helped extricate the critically injured patient.
Campbell said the accident led to a massive back-up in traffic on both sides of the freeway.
“ER24 would like to thank all of the services on the scene for the teamwork in saving the 15-year-old boy,” he said.
