Two church elders and a woman are due to appear in court in Gauteng this week after being arrested for contravening Disaster Management Regulations.
Police used rubber bullets and teargas to disperse about 250 people attending a church service in Sebokeng on Sunday who police said turned violent after refusing to disperse.
A spokesperson said chairs were thrown at police who had responded to a complaint about an illegal gathering.
Two male church leaders, aged 47 and 69 as well as a 62-year-old woman were arrested.
They are due to appear in court this week.
Police also appealed to members of the public to adhere to the Lockdown Regulations and not to go out of their way to break the law.
