Seven killed in Joburg taxi shootings

SAPS

Four people were killed in a shooting at a taxi rank in Doornfontein in Johannesburg on Thursday morning.

Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said four men allegedly arrived at the taxi rank and began shooting randomly.

She said three people, including a university student waiting for a bus, were injured.

The shooting will be investigated by the Gauteng taxi violence unit.

Meanwhile, Nevhuhulwi said three people were also killed in another taxi rank shooting on Wednesday when gunmen fired at bystanders at the Zonkizizwe taxi rank.

She said the deceased were identified as taxi drivers, while two passengers were injured and taken to hospital.

No arrests have yet been made in either case.
