Kwazulu Natal police said four suspects who were wanted for murder, robbery and extortion, were killed in a shootout with officers in Durban north.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Paul Magwaza, said the suspects were driving on Lark Road, heading towards Dumisani Makhaye Drive, when they were intercepted by the police.
“The suspects opened fire when they saw the police and police retaliated.
“During the shootout, three suspects were fatally wounded.
“A search in the vicinity of the crime scene led to the discovery of the body of the fourth suspect, who had attempted to flee, but had sustained gunshot wounds,” Magwaza said.
No police officers were wounded in the shootout.
Magwaza said three firearms were also found on the scene, adding that the suspects were wanted for numerous murders, robberies, and extortion cases in the Ethekwini district.
