The National Sea Rescue Institute is searching for a man who went missing in Durban after a private ski boat capsized on Thursday.
The NRSI said its Durban crew was activated by Transnet National Ports Authority following reports of the ski boat taking on water off-shore of Vetchies Beach.
Spokesperson, Craig Lambinon, said it appears that the ski-boat may have suffered engine failure before drifting out the Durban Port entrance where off-shore of Vetchies the vessel capsized.
He said an NSRI sea rescue craft was launched while SAPS Search and Rescue and Metro Police Search and Rescue were also activated.
"Arriving on the scene our NSRI sea rescue craft found a private ski-boat Catamaran had recovered 8 people from the water. The 8 survivors reported one person still missing," Lambinon said.
He said despite an extensive search, there was no sign of the missing local man.
Police divers and Metro Police divers will continue the search for the missing man on Friday.
