A 50-year-old Limpopo man will appear in court on Friday for assaulting a 16-year-old boy at a shopping mall in Groblersdal following an argument over salt in a fish and chips shop.
A video of the incident, which went viral, shows the man repeatedly kicking the teenager as his friends plead for mercy. He also pointed a firearm at the teenager.
Police say the suspect will face a charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm when he appears in the Groblersdal Magistrate's Court.
"We will not tolerate incidents of gender-based violence and attacks on our children and we will ensure that justice prevails for the victim. In the meantime we urge community members to remain calm and allow us space to deal with the matter," said Limpopo police commissioner Thembi Hadebe.
