Western Cape authorities hunting for an unknown number of Nile crocodiles that escaped from a Bonnievale breeding farm say seven had to be euthanised on Thursday night.
Twenty-seven animals were already recaptured while six more were spotted but could not be caught.
Cape Nature, supported by police and other stakeholders, have set humane traps with food along the Breede River, but this is proven ineffective as there is an abundance of food available.

Authorities say the overgrown river and dense vegetation on the riverbanks are also making it difficult to recapture the animals, who are nocturnal creatures.
Police also made four of their boats and eight police divers available to assist in searching for the crocks.
The CEO of Cape Nature Dr Razeena Omar said she was saddened by the extreme measure this operation was now requiring.
She said the onus remains on wildlife owners to strictly adhere to permit regulations. A thorough investigation will be led by CapeNature to ascertain whether there was a breach in complying with the regulations which could have resulted in the escape of these young crocodiles.
