Nine suspects are due to appear in court on Friday for allegedly stealing R53 million rand from the Tshwane Municipality after hacking into their systems.

Hawks national spokesperson, Colonel Katlego Mogale, says they were arrested by their National Clean Audit Task Team on Thursday.

She says the stolen money was transferred into different bank accounts, including that of a company Ayakhula Trading.

Mogale says Ayakhula Trading is also implicated in a similar fraudulent act where an estimated R1 billion JSE Trustee account was targeted by the syndicate.

Alert Absa bankers picked up the irregularities.

Mogale says former directors were among those arrested on charges of fraud and corruption.
