SAPS to paint the country 'Blue’

SAPS

The South African Police Service said it would launch a new operational concept called ‘Country in Blue” this weekend.

According to SAPS, this new concept entails all operational vehicles to be driven with their emergency warning blue lights on at all times.

Spokesperson, Colonel Athlenda Mathe, said this was “to enhance and heighten police visibility from sunset to sunrise.”

“This concept aims to prevent and combat a host of crimes, which include all 17 community reported crimes,” she said.

These included gender-based violence, aggravated robberies such as carjacking, business and residential robberies commonly known as trio crimes, Mathe said.

The launch would take place in Inanda in Kwazulu Natal on Saturday, with the Minister of Police, Bheki Cele, the Deputy Minister of Police, Cassel Mathale and the National Commissioner, General Khehla Sitole, in attendance.
