A Cape Town lawyer has been arrested after being “intoxicated” and in possession of drugs that were apparently for a client that he is representing.
Western Cape police spokesperson, Colonel Andre’ Traut said the “vigilance of a Bellville court orderly” led to the arrest of the 39-year-old man on Thursday morning.
He said during court proceedings the lawyer was excused by the presiding magistrate “due to the suspicion that he was intoxicated.”
“As he left the court, the orderly followed him and conducted a search which resulted in the discovery of 200 mandrax tablets and Tik” with a combined street value of R9600.
Traut said the lawyer, who resides in Khayelitsha, will appear in the same court where he was arrested.
He said the matter is still the subject of an ongoing investigation.
