SAPS members in viral video attached to Deputy President

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating allegations of assault against members of the Protection Security Services in SAPS.

This follows a viral video on social media showing the officers allegedly assaulting a driver of a VW Polo and his passenger.

It has since been confirmed that the officers are attached to the security detail of Deputy President Paul Mashatile.

IPID Spokesperson Robbie Raburabu says they have already traced the victims' family members so that they could be assisted in laying charges.

He says they are also currently engaging with the victim's Employers to assist with the investigation.

The video was filmed by a motorist on the N1 in Fourways, Johannesburg on Thursday.

The Deputy President has appealed to the public to allow the SAPS the necessary space to complete its investigation into the incident and take whatever corrective action is necessary.

The video shows members of Mashatile's security dragging the motorist and his passenger out of their vehicles before violently kicking them all over their bodies while holding their rifles,
