Law enforcement agencies, accompanied by Police Minister Bheki Cele, on Sunday morning shut down a club in Sandton, Johannesburg for violating various COVID-19 lockdown regulations.
The club called "Blackdoor" was still open after the midnight curfew and was packed to capacity according to Minister Cele.
Dozens of patrons, who allegedly did not wear any masks or practised social distancing, were asked to leave.
Officers confiscated alcohol worth R800 000 from the club and arrested the manager who could not provide a liquor license.
The manager is also being charged for flouting lockdown regulations as nightclubs are not allowed to operate during Level 1.
