Eight people were killed and several others injured following a head-on collision between a taxi and light motor vehicle in Melkbosstrand Street, in the Western Cape on Monday morning.
A spokesperson for ER24 Russel Meiring says, when they arrived at the scene, they found several people lying scattered across the road with one passenger trapped inside the taxi.
He says medics assessed the patients and found that eight people from the taxi had sustained numerous fatal injuries. They were declared dead on the scene.
At least ten other patients were treated for injuries and transported to hospital.
The exact cause of the accident will be investigated by SAPS.
