The Presidency says the SA National Defence Force will monitor piracy in Mozambican and Tanzanian waters until March next year.
Spokesperson, Mac Maharaj says President Jacob Zuma ordered the extension under the Constitution, and will include the SANDF's regular and reserve forces.
He says a total of 220 members had been deployed along the Southern African coast of the Indian ocean since November 2012.
The service was to have ended on March 31 this year.
