The Department of Health said that the number of confirmed coronavirus (Covid19) cases in the country stood at 61 927 as of Friday with 3359 news cases identified.
“A total of 1,060, 425 tests had been processed to date, of which 32,026 had been conducted since the previous report on Thursday,” said Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize.
"Regrettably, we report a further 70 Covid-19-related deaths: 39 from the Western Cape, 30 from the Eastern Cape, and one from Limpopo. This brings the total national deaths to 1354 with a mortality rate of 2.2 percent.”
The Eastern Cape recorded 8615 confirmed cases, 4393 recoveries, and 208 deaths.
The provincial breakdown was as follows:
Eastern Cape - 208 deaths, and 4393 recoveries
Free State - 9 - and 189
Gauteng - 57 and - 2948
KwaZulu-Natal - 64 and 1572
Limpopo - 4 and 175
Mpumalanga - 1 and 116
North West - 5 and 128
Northern Cape - 1 and 52
Western Cape - 1005 deaths and 25,435 recoveries
