SA records more than half-a-million COVID-19 cases


South Africa recorded more than half-a-million Covid-19 cases after more than 10-thousand new cases were reported in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 503 290.

The country has recorded a recovery rate of 68%.

The Health Department says 148 new deaths were reported, bringing the country's tally to 8 153.

In the Eastern Cape, 78 782 people are now confirmed to have been infected, while more than 66 500 recovered from the virus.

The province's death toll has also increased and now stands at 1 744.
