The Department of Basic Education has released a revised calendar for the 2020 academic year.
It says schools will resume on 24 August.
The Department says there will be another break from 26 to 30 October to separate the third and fourth terms.
The 2020 Grade 12 exams will be completed by mid-December while marking will be finalized by 22 January, with results to be released just over a month later.
The school year for grades R to 11 will be concluded by 15 December.
The Department says the academic year won't be rolled over into 2021.
The 2021 school year will commence on 25 January for teachers, and a few days later for learners.
Last month, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced a four-week break for schools, to ensure that they were prepared for the return of more grades in August.
