The ANC Parliamentary Caucus said it had decided to take firm action against ANC MP Boy Mamabolo, who allegedly threatened to shoot Sunday World Journalist Ngwako Malatji.
The governing party said that as a Member of Parliament, Mamabolo is bound by the Oath of Office to serve, represent, respect, and protect the citizens of the Republic of South Africa.
Malatji had reportedly laid a complaint with the police after he was verbally threatened by Mamabolo during a telephone conversation.
The ANC Caucus in Parliament said it strives to maintain a cordial relationship with members of the media and respects the Constitutional values and Bill of Rights, including freedom of expression as well as the media freedom.
“The matter has been referred to the National Caucus Disciplinary Committee today, 01 August 2020, by ANC Chief Whip Pemmy Majodina,” according to a statement on Saturday.
The ANC Caucus will communicate the outcomes of the disciplinary process in due course.
