The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) says since the official vaccine rollout started in South Africa in May this year they had only received 1 473 reports of adverse effects following people receiving their jabs.
With over 10 million jabs already administered, these reports account for a mere 0.02% adverse reporting rate.
SAHPRA says most side effects are mild like a tender arm or a headache, but serious side effects should be reported within 48 hours.
According to the Regulatory Authority, ‘serious adverse events will include hospitalisation and be life-threatening.
SAHPRA says to date, they have investigated 32 cases of people who died shortly after receiving the vaccine but following a multi-disciplinary investigation found that 28 were coincidental.
Four cases are unfortunately unclassifiable because there was either no information available about the case or the information was completely inadequate.
A further 170 Covid-19 related deaths were reported yesterday, bringing total fatalities to 79 421.
