Rural Flying Squad members confiscated drugs with an estimated street value of R1.4 million during a high-speed chase on the N1 at Laingsburg in the Western Cape on Monday.
Sergeant Chris Spies reports that while conducting patrols in the early morning hours, the members spotted an approaching Toyota Quantum with tinted windows, which then sped off at high speed.
When the vehicle was eventually brought to a halt, the occupants of the minibus fled the scene on foot.
Sergeant Spies says the driver was arrested at the scene while his passenger managed to evade arrest, but was apprehended a short while later.
Upon searching the vehicle the members found 60 bags of dagga weighing 738.1 kilogrammes.
Both suspects aged 30 remain in custody and are expected to appear in the Laingsburg Magistrates’ court on Tuesday on a charge of dealing drugs.
