Goldfields has confirmed the resignation of its chairperson, Dr Mamphele Ramphele.
The company said in a statement today that Ramphele will step down with immediate effect to further her socio-economic and political work.
Goldfields says she's resigned from most of her private sector directorships and will relinquish all other remaining private sector directorships and positions to focus on these activities.
Ramphele is expected to announce her entry into politics next week and its widely speculated that she may be launching a new political party.
