Prosecutor dies after accidental court shooting

Kwazulu Natal police have opened a culpable homicide docket after a state prosecutor died after being accidentally shot in a courtroom.

Addelaid Ferriera-Watt (51) died in hospital after being wounded in the hip when a shotgun, that was brought to court as an exhibit in a house robbery case, accidentally went off.

The incident happened at the Ixopo Magistrate's Court on Monday.

KZN police spokesperson, Jay Naicker, said: "when the firearm was being handed in at court a round accidentally went off and hit the court official".
