A former Control Prosecutor of the Atlantis Magistrates Court in the Western Cape has been found guilty on 157 charges of child pornography and one of sexual assault.
The 44-year-old Dawid Lotz whose duties included giving guidance to prosecutors and study case dockets was convicted in the Parow Regional Court on Monday.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk says Lotz became a person of interest in October 2016 which led to a warrant being issued to search his office and his home in Malmesbury where exhibits were seized.
He says Lotz was arrested on the 31st of December 2016 and finally entered into a plea agreement with the State on Monday.
Lotz was sentenced to an effective seven years in prison. (10 years imprisonment of which three years were suspended for five years).
The court also ordered that his name be recorded in the Nation Register for Sex offenders.
He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm or work with children.
