Popcru CEO to appear in court on string of charges

The Chief Executive Officer of the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union POPCRU was arrested on Tuesday, after days of being on the police's wanted list.

Zwelinkosi Mdletshe and a second suspect, Robert Sheriff were arrested by the Hawks after being linked to a kidnapping and murder conspiracy of POPCRU senior officials.

A 34-year-old Lesotho national, Neo Letele who is believed to be a middleman in the case was arrested earlier this month.

Hawks spokesperson, Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi says Letele was allegedly asked by the two to source a 1 million rand assassin to execute a hit against the senior officials in the union who wanted the two to account for funds which were allegedly embezzled from as far back as 2016.

All three suspects are expected to appear in court on Wednesday.
